“I really love these earrings. They remind me of the Naupaka flower. The Naupaka story is a beloved Hawaiian legend about forbidden love, symbolized by the distinctive half-flowers of the Naupaka plant, which grows both on the beach (naupaka kahakai) and in the mountains (naupaka kuahiwi). A princess, Naupaka, fell in love with a commoner, Kaui, but their union was forbidden by tradition. After being denied by elders and gods, they separated in sorrow, with Naupaka tearing a flower in half as a parting gift, explaining that he would live by the sea while she stayed in the mountains, forever separated but linked by the two halves of the blossom. Only downfall of this jewelry piece is that it is a bit heavy on the ears.”
